How do I use the chat?
The PhinisheD chat is based on Macromedia Flash, so your browser must be equipped for Flash--most modern browsers are. If you are logged in, you should be able to navigate to the chat, wait for the Flash module to load, and start chatting! Simply type your message into the box on the lower left side of the chat panel and hit the "return" key or click the "Send" button. Using the controls above the message box, you can mark yourself here or away, change your own board settings and text color, save the chat transcript, get help, insert a smiley into your message, or format text bold or italic. Please make sure to click the red "X" in the upper right corner of the chat window to log out when you are done.

For much more information on how Phinishers use chat to work, please read this very helpful thread posted on the Phorum by eatingganesh.

How do I create and use a private room?
To create your own room, click the "Add" button. You will be asked to name your room and make it public or private. If it is public, it will show up in the list of rooms on the right side of the chat window. If it is private, it will not be visible at all.

In order for others to join you in a private room you've created, you will have to invite them. If you'd like to join others in a private room created by someone else, you will have to be invited. For added privacy, you may apply a password to your private room and even those who have been invited will have to enter the password.

How do I invite someone into my private room?
To issue an invitation, just click on the user's name in the list of chatters on the right of the chat window, and select "Invite". A window will open in which you can select the room you're inviting the user to enter, and a message that will be sent with the invitation.

What else can I do when I click on a user's name in the list?
The pop-up menu that opens when you click on a name allows you not only to invite that person into a private room, but also to send a private message to that person, to view his or her prophile, or to share a file with that person.

How do I share a file in the chat?
Just click on a user's name in the list, select "Share File" from the menu, and a dialog box will open prompting you to navigate to the file you want to upload and select with whom you want to share it: the individual user, all the members of your chat room, or everyone currently using the chat.

The user(s) with whom you are sharing the file will receive a pop-up notice that you are sharing a file, some info on the file, and a prompt asking them if they'd like to accept it or deny it. If they choose to accept, the file will be downloaded to their computer.

Currently the chat accepts a variety of graphic image formats, as well as PDF files, Microsoft Office documents, and Open Office document. Shared files are limited to 1MB in size.

Local time is 5:30 PM (21:30 GMT).
